Wiesbaden (dpa) - The e-bike boom in Germany has continued to pick up speed in the Corona crisis: According to the Federal Statistical Office, around 7.1 million electric bicycles were available at the beginning of the year 2021 in private households. That was 1.2 million or 20 percent more than a year earlier, as the Wiesbaden authority announced on Tuesday. The E- Bicycles are distributed among almost 5.1 million households, so that mathematically around every eighth private household (13 percent ) owns at least one electric bike in Germany. At the beginning 2020 it was still every ninth household (11 percent). The comparatively expensive companions can be found especially with higher earners: In households with more than 3500 monthly income there was in every fifth household ( 20 Percent) at least one electric bike.
