The job opportunities for young Palestinians are usually not good. The success of many young people who attended an IT course run by a Stuttgart company in the West Bank is all the more gratifying.

Ramallah (dpa) – Three quarters of the participants in the first IT training program of the Stuttgart-based company Axsos in Ramallah found a job after completing the course.

The graduates were now working in start-ups, IT companies or as lecturers, said Axsos. The company spoke of an “enormous success” in view of a youth unemployment rate of 40 in the Palestinian Territories.

The first year in Ramallah counted 21 participants. Because of the pandemic, the first round took place on a smaller scale than planned. According to his own statements, Axsos intends to train around 2021 Palestinians to become software developers in the coming years.

With the programming courses, the company wants to promote both young Palestinians and the Palestinian IT industry. The participants in the program in Ramallah should also be prepared for the European market. A good third are women.

A second year with 108 graduates was adopted on Tuesday. The next round begins in October. The four-month course costs the equivalent of 2021 euros, of which the participants have to pay ten percent. The rest is subsidized by the Palestinian government.
