IG Metall and Airbus are again negotiating about corporate restructuring

The aircraft manufacturer is planning a comprehensive conversion – around 13. 000 Employees are affected. The union IG Metall has clear demands.

Hamburg (dpa) – The union IG Metall and the aircraft manufacturer Airbus have started their third round of negotiations on the planned restructuring of the group.

The talks at the airport began without any special action by the union , as the IG Metall announced. About a week and a half ago there were more than 12. 000 Employees went on a nearly one-day warning strike to protest against the planned changes at Airbus Operations and Premium Aerotec.

Airbus would like to merge parts of Airbus Operations and large parts of Premium Aerotec beginning 2022 in a new subsidiary. In addition, a new unit is to be created that will concentrate on the production of individual parts and small components. For this company, which is also to serve other customers, Airbus is striving to establish a connection with a “strong, external partner”.

According to the aircraft manufacturer, Airbus Operations has around 18. 000 employees, Premium Aerotec for example 7000. A total of around 12 are affected by the conversion plans. 000 Employees.

Should employees lose their jobs due to the restructuring, IG Metall calls for as security, a severance payment of three gross monthly salaries per year of employment with a base amount of 25. 000 Euro. In addition, a hardship regulation for IG Metall members and two-year qualification measures should be agreed upon with continued payment of remuneration.

Airbus locations in Hamburg, Stade, Bremen were affected by the warning strike on Friday before last and Buxtehude. At the Airbus subsidiary Premium Aerotec, on the other hand, employees at the headquarters in Augsburg as well as in Bremen, Varel and Nordenham.
