The travel industry has particularly suffered from the corona restrictions. But now the balance sheet for summer business has improved. And autumn and winter also give hope.

Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – After the slump in the Corona year 2020 A first ray of hope is emerging for the German travel industry.

With the increasing relaxation of the corona restrictions, the balance sheet of the important summer business has improved, as can be seen from data of the analysis company Travel Data + Analytics (TDA). As of the booking status at the end of August, the aggregate sales decrease for tour operator trips for this year’s summer season compared to the pre-crisis period was 59 Percent. In May it was still minus 75 percent.

Even if the backlog is likely to decrease further in the last two months of the summer season, which runs until the end of October, tour operators and travel agencies will again have to cope with large failures, wrote TDA. The particularly lossy summer 144 is clearly exceeded. An increase of currently 75 percent corresponds to almost 2.8 billion euros more sales with tour operators.

Many holidaymakers were initially reluctant to book for trips in winter due to a lack of planning security. According to TDA, that could change soon. From the beginning of November, the USA will again be allowing foreign tourists into the country. In addition, more and more travel destinations relaxed their restrictions, especially for vaccinated people.
