Daimler has big plans for its truck division. It should go public this year. And the eActros is now going into series production in Wörth.

Stuttgart (dpa) – The commercial vehicle manufacturer Daimler Truck will start production of its first electric series truck this Thursday in Wörth, Rhineland-Palatinate.

The eActros has three or four battery packs and a range of up to 100 kilometers, announced the company on Monday in Stuttgart.

Only at the end of last week did the Daimler shareholders give the green light for the spin-off from Daimler Truck. The truck and bus manufacturer is to be listed on the stock exchange by Christmas. He sees himself as the world market leader for commercial vehicles and employs over 100. 000 People.

According to earlier company information, the eActros will not be a bargain. The price is about three times that of a comparable diesel truck, said Andreas von Wallfeld, Head of Sales & Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, in June. For customers in the transport industry, however, the total costs including items such as fuel, maintenance and wear and tear are more important than the pure purchase price. With these total costs, the eActros is almost on par with comparable vehicles in some markets, according to the manager. In the year 2030 trucks with these drives could collectively up to 60 make up percent of sales, said Daimler Truck boss Martin Daum at the annual general meeting on Friday.

In Wörth, Mercedes- Benz trucks produced, they work around there 10. 000 People.
